My Daily Skincare Routine

Hey cuties! Last year I started seeing a dermatologist for my hyperpigmentation and since then, it has significantly improved! I have also included other products I bought from TheFaceShop, Sasa.com, Memebox, and drugstore items. I'll link each item as I describe what they do and how I use them in my daily skincare regimen.

There are some other items I didn't mention in the video I uploaded to my YouTube channel that I am going to share with you all so keep on reading!
  1. Aqua Glycolic Facial Cleanser
    • Claims: Gentle non-drying and compatible with all skin types. Can also be used for shaving sensitive areas such as the bikini line, face and underarms.
    • Routine: This is step 1 in my routine before applying anything else. I start off by massaging it on dry as instructed on the direction and then add some water to my hands to further cleanse my face. The best effects I get with it though is when I use my Vitagoods Spin for Perfect Skin Brush but you can always use a manual face brush you have around to gently exfoliate your skin.
    • Effects: Because it has 11% glycolic compound, it reduces the appearance of dark spots but in a non-abrasive manner and it also is formulated for oily skin. It does not lather at all and is like applying a moisturizer to your face but you do get a deep clean after using it. I have noticed this along with the toner has made the biggest difference in my skin's condition!
  2. Young Pore Unclogging Face Scrub
    • Claims: Polishing beads pick up where cleansers leave off. Smoothes skin so naturally. A weekly must up to twice a week as skin demands.
    • Routine: Step 2 I will use this scrube IF my skin needs it. As mentioned above, you should also use this up to two times per week so to make sure my dead skin cells aren't piling up I use this scrub once or twice a week right after using my cleanser.
    • Effects: This does seem to help remove the remaining residue that my cleanser may have missed and I love how the beads feel on my skin. It isn't too rough or too gentle so it works perfectly. There's also a very subtle fragrance that is refreshing when using this scrub.
  3. Aqua Glycolic Toner
    • Claims: Throughly cleans oily or problem-prone skin, leaving skin free of excess oil, dirt and make up. With continued use, your skin will have a smoother texture and healthier complexion.
    • Routine: Step 3, I use this toner by using a pump into a high quality cotton pad and use it all over my face. I concentrate on my nose area, my cheeks, jaw and then my forehead.
    • Effects: My skin feels way cleaner then just using my cleansers/scrubs after this toner is applied. It does however make parts of my skin feel a little sensitive, particularly around the sides of my nose so I try to not rub it there as much unlike before. The rest of my face feels fine with it though!
  4. Too Cool For School Aqua Gel Mist
    • Claims: A gel-textured mist with high concentration of Trehalos. The main ingredient, Trehalos, instantly replenishes the skin with soothing hydration, and provides a healthy-looking glow to your skin.
    • Routine: If my skin feels a little too dry, I'll use this super moisturizing mist from Memebox and do about 4 sprays with the bottle positioned nearly 10 inches away from my face. This would be step 4.
    • Effects: The smell makes me feel so calm and it is such a refreshing feeling on my skin! I love the packaging as well.
  5. Natural Sun AQ Super Perfect Sun Cream SPF 50+ PA+++
    • Claims: A natural sunscreen care blocks both UVA and UVB rays through powerful sunscreen providing complete protection to skin exposed to UV rays while outdoors without oiliness or sheen.
    • Routine: Step 5, I use this product in combination with the following product to give myself protection from the sun's UV rays. It is also used as a moisturizer.
    • Effects: This is the longest lasting sunscreen I have in my skincare products and is used during the seasons when the sun is out the most. Although this does not give me an ashy look like some sunscreens, I dislike the oily appearance it gives off on my skin though which is why I have to sometimes use the next item with it to prevent that.
  6. MAC's Oil Control Lotion
    • Claims: Natural exfoliants help improve texture and clarity. Lightweight and instantly matte, bonds makeup to the skin for fewer touch-ups. Oil-free hydration with natural colloidal minerals and antioxidants. Formulated to keep skin pH-balanced.
    • Routine: Step 5, this lotion is mixed with my sunscreen to make sure my face does not look too oily later on in the day especially if the weather is warm.
    • Effects: Shockingly, this lotion works really well for my skin and almost completely mattifies it entirely while still leaving it feeling hydrated. I may most likely buy the bigger version after running out of this small version because of this.
The next set of items are the ones I didn't not share in my video but are still important to mentioned as products I occasionally use daily.

    • Claims: Remedy Acne Pore Deep Cleanser reduces the appearance of pores and refines skin tone and texture.
    • Routine: If I ever get a zit which is thankfully rare thanks to my birth control, I will use this cleanser instead of my AG cleanser to help reduce the growth rate of the acne.
    • Effects: It doesn't work unless  you consistently use it for about 2-3 days and that's without using additional products on the zit. I say that's pretty good compared to other acne cleansers I've tried back in high school from drugstores but I should say it has a funky smell to it.
  8. O'slee Rosehip Peeling Gel
    • Claims: Dissolves cuticle and blackhead in 1 minute! With Micro-Seaweed Peeling Element, it decomposes extra grease and dead skin cells. Cleanse skin deeply. Skin becomes translucent white and with even skin tone for continuous use. Grape-Glycerl Cleaning Factor penetrates into pores and dissolves blackhead within 1 minute and refine pores quickly.
    • Routine: Instead of using a scrub like step 2, I will use this peeling gel to exfoliate my skin.
    • Effects: When you massage this into your skin, it turns into little beads and I'm led to believe that it is in the process of removing the dead skin as you do this. Not sure how well it's worked for me though because I hardly noticed a difference so I doubt I'll be buying this again but for now, it is still part of my routine a couple times out of the week.
  9. JUJU Cosmetics Whitening Mist
    • Claims: Freshly hydrates skin. It is permeated with the sweet scent of peach. It contains placental protein, a whitening and naturally repairing ingredient. Together with such strongly hydrating ingredients as hyaluronic acid and peach leaf extract, it instantly replenishes skin with moisture. It can be used to fix make-up. The acidulous formula is free from mineral oil, colourants and alcohol. Suitable for face and body, it can be used after cleansing face, bathing or applying make-up.
    • Routine: Step 4, I may want to switch over to this mist mainly to keep the dark spots at bay since the sun is going to be out more this season.
    • Effects: I honestly don't think it does much besides lightly moisturizing my skin. It has whitening agents in it which sort of bugs me but at the time I wasn't thinking too deeply about it when I purchased it. Here's a tip to anyone fighting with acne scaring: Just because something says it will "whiten" your skin doesn't mean it's going to help with dark spots. This one didn't do anything for me in that department so I'm really just using it to finish it up at the moment more than anything else.
  10. Aloe Fresh Gel Cream by TheFaceShop
    • Claims: Lightweight refreshing Oil-Free gel cream that absorbs quickly and gives immediate hydration to the skin. Ideal for oily and combination skin.
    • Routine: If I want to not use my MAC oil control lotion then I'll use this in combination with Step 5 when using my sunscreen.
    • Effects: It is truly like a gel type lotion and applies super smoothly as a result. It gives immediate moisture, smells subtlely pleasant, and has an overall appealing feeling. I like storing this in the fridge so it goes on cool.
  11. Neutrogea's Oil-Free Moisturizer with SPF 35
    • Claims: Clinically proven to combine long-lasting moisturization with effective sun protection for softer, smoother, younger-looking skin. Lightweight, non-greasy formula keeps skin moisturized and has a broad-spectrum UVA-UVB SPF 35 sunscreens.
    • Routine: If I don't intend on going on for too long for the day, I use this sunscreen for step number 5 instead. I may or may not use my MAC oil control lotion.
    • Effects: It doesn't feel as non-greasy as it claims on my skin but I like that it is pretty lightweight. Other than that there isn't too many special things to say about this one.
That concludes my Skincare Routine post...phew! I hope each description helped you all in learning about some new products or maybe more information on some you were already aware of. I am proud of my skin's appearance but I still hope that in another year I can be completely acne scar free! What main products do you guys typically use in your skincare regimen?

P.S.

You can watch the routine video here if you'd like. Also, please lemme know what you think of the new intro and outro. Should I tweak them at all or leave them as is?

  1. Wow, that's a lot compared to the two facial products I use every day (thanks for making me feel like a slacker when it comes to taking care of my skin)!

I've been using the Bod Shop's Tea Tree skin clearing facial wash and Pond's moisturizer. Both of these seem to be working well for me, although I would love to add some SPF protection into my regime. The tea tree facial wash that I've been using is also supposed to help clear up blemishes on your skin, which is great because I also have some acne marks on my face.

  3. Thanks for reviewing this...those are some interesting products! Lately I have been getting quite a few big zits on my face due to lack of sleep and eating too much fried/junk food. I am pretty lucky that I don't really get pimples all that often too. I usually only get pimples when 1) I don't get more than 8 hours of sleep a day 2) eating too much junk/fried food 3) when I'm on my period 4) when I am under a lot of stress. I have been searching for an acne cream that helps to make acne fade faster when I do have pimples on my face. I use this acne wash cream by neutrogena that I got from a drugstore that is called "acne stress control" that is similar to the NoTS 28 Remedy Acne Pore Deep Cleanser that you blogged about. It works great on small pimples but it doesn't really work so well with bigger zits. I have to apply the cream on my zit for a few days to get the size to reduce a bit smaller. I'm hoping to find a good acne cream when I go to Japan in October!

Wow, that really is a lot of products! And I love getting to know new products because you just cant have enough xD My skin care routine doesn't have a lot of products yet so this post was really good to me, it is good to see a different product for each condition your skin might be on that day *O*

  6. Oh no haha you're no slacker! Your skin might not need all the stuff I use because it might have way less issues than mine has and in that case, you're super lucky!! I'd much rather just use two tbh especially on my laziest days of the week.

I never heard of Bod Shop but anything with Tea Tree (oil) is known to help with scarring from what I've heard. Is it relatively affordable? Maybe I'll switch over to it one of these days and see how I like it. If you wear foundation daily, I know MAC's studio fix fluid foundation has SPF 15 in it but if you don't then I definitely say to buy a decent sunscreen at with at least spf 35. Prevent those age lines for as long as you can!

  8. No problem, I like sharing my skincare finds on my blog! I also like reading other people's skincare product reviews too! Wow, Japan in October you say? Very lucky! I am almost positive that you'll be able to find something for your skin while you're there that is effective in preventing the growth of zits. I imagine their selection of products have more advanced options than what we have here in drugstores.

I used to have super big ones before I saw my dermatologist last year around my TOM and when I would stress over school work or work in general which is why she said that I mostly had hormonal acne. I really think the hormonal treatment is a great way to keep those zits away unless of course there are religious reasons stopping you. Usually, the creams I used to use for zits were all containing ingredients that dried out the zits but they were never strong enough to really swear by them. I do hope you find something soon though. They can be such a pain...literally!

  9. I'd be happy to hear what you think of them if you ever do end up getting something from one of these brands. Good luck Emi!

  10. Exactly lol I feel the same way. I'm always trying new things on my face but as long as I consistently cleanse, tone, exfoliate and use face masks regularly then I don't think it's doing anything bad to it.But I also understand that sometimes simple skin care routines are good for people who don't have too many skin conditions. I'm glad this helped you out in some way ^ ^

  11. Ya I hardly see Japanese actresses/singers with acne breakouts. I am pretty sure they have a much better selection of products for acne too! I've seen a few in Japanese fashion magazines too when they do those top 10 ranking for beauty products.

I think my acne are hormonal acne too. I have gone to see a dermatologist before and he said my skin condition is fine. He said it's possibly because I'm stressed and not getting enough sleep and all. He did prescribe me this cream to apply on my face when I do get a pimple on my face but it doesn't do much. But I do find that if I keep an eye on my daily life style routines to a healthy life style it does make a huge difference. Like when I go to sleep early and have good sufficient amount of sleep or if I stay away from eating fried/junk food and just drink more water and I TRY to stay stress-free I don't get any pimples at all. Except I can't really help it when I'm on my period....I always break out with a small pimple here and there. =(

  13. Oops, typo: It's supposed to be the Body Shop. Their prices are pretty decent, and they also have massive sales and discounts almost every week, so you can get a lot of products for cheap! I think the foundation I use has SPF protection (Bare Minerals), but I'm not sure how strong it is. I guess that's something I have to look into.

  14. OMG I LOVE THAT PLACE THEN! Haha they do have great fragrances and their body butter is amazing! I wanna try Bare Minerals out soon since my skin has improved! Can't wait!

  15. Haha thank you so much! Yeah I get those days too especially when my sleeping cycle is all screwed up. I hate it!

  16. I heard not getting enough sleep is a contributor to acne as well but I'm not sure how that works as much as make up residue, hormones and poor diets. I have heard people throw around the suggestion of drinking tons of water throughout the day and I think that might be a great idea for you if you haven't done so. It helped me a lot before seeing my dermatologist but I stopped because I haven't been good with remembering to bring my bottle with me to classes and/or work.

I like to actually put a small squirt of lemon in it so I feel more refreshed each time I drink from it as well as add some fruits inside. A lot of people have been doing that lately and they seem to really like it! Plus it looks pretty lol I'm sure you will find something that works well for you! Good luck!
